NOT HAPPENING!!

Today I attempted (key word attempted) to brush Bailey's teeth.  I was looking at her teeth the other day and they aren't too pretty.  Since she was a puppy I've always played with her lips and stuck my fingers in her mouth just like the experts say to do so that she is used to it when you need to get something out of her mouth or brush her teeth.  She's never really cared about it, just lets it happen.  Well, it was a different story today!  I made a simple mix of baking soda, water and some of a beef boulion cube hoping the meat flavoring would entice her.  Boy was I wrong!  I started in our bedroom and she immediately ran away, so I had to drag her in the bathroom and shut the door so she wouldn't run away.
I first attempted putting the doggie paste on my finger and apparently she had flash backs to her last vet visit...  So I then I tried putting it on the actual brush and she FLIPPED OUT!  She started whining, biting the air, cowering in the corner...  at one point she was leaning against the tub and nearly fell in because she couldn't get away from the tooth brush fast enough!
If I don't look at her maybe she'll go away...
IT'S NOT WORKING!!!
Maybe I can hide behind the toilet
Avoiding eye-contact didn't work so maybe I can cuddle my way out of this...
So I never got any brushing done, but she did finally taste the meaty paste... maybe we'll try again with the help of daddy tonight.

TMI...

This post was co-written by the husband - he has a very vivid imagination...
So Miss Bailey has been licking her hind corners a lot - I mean A LOT - lately. Licking wouldn't be that bad, but the stench that fills the room when she is done is HORENDOUS!!! It literally smelled like old rotten fish that washed up on from the shores of hell with a sign on it's face that said I smell like a dirty middle school boy!
So being the diligent dog-mom I am, I went straight to the web to find out what was going on. "web-md was offline". Much to my disappointment every site I looked at said she needed to have her anal glands released... Yeah, this is where that TMI comes in!
I called our vet and made an appointment to have her hiney cleaned. When we got to the vet they aparently didn't believe me that she needed her hiney cleaned because I had to explain to 3 different people why I thought she needed it. Finally they brought us to the back room to see the vet. After I explained - yet again - why she needed the 'procedure' he said "Oh boy, this is going to be fun!" So according to the vet this issue rarely happens to large dogs - lucky me...
For the record I hope to never go through that again and I'm 100% positive Miss Bailey doesn't want that either! The visual that I was exposed is nothing short of a mental scar. After I left I wanted to desperately call out to the Men In Black to get my memory cleared. I'll spare you the juicy details of the rest of the visit and leave you with this... The smell she left in that office was indescribable, I'm so glad we went towards the end of the day so the staff didn't have to sit in that all day long!

Rock Chalk!

I was just looking through my camera and completely forgot to post these!  This year the KU Bookstore had a great Black Friday Deal - Spend $50 get 2 free tickets to a KU mens game & 2 free tickets to a KU women's game.  So this was the Husband's Stocking Stuffer this year!  Granted the two games we got to choose from were no name teams, but it was still fun!  My parents were here on Black Friday too, so they spent a little as well and we all got to go to a game together.
Game #1 KU vs UT Arlington --> 82-57
 Dad & Jordan
 Jared and his friend Amy
Mom, Nathan & I

Game #2 KU vs UMKC --> 99-52
I was lucky to get even one picture -- I really need to work on remembering to take pictures!
We headed to AppleBee's to celebrate the 'big' win with 1/2 Price Apps thanks to our Christmas Gift Cards!

Snow Day #2 - AKA Random

The husband had another snow day on Tuesday, although it wasn't near as eventful as Snow Day #1.  So instead lets look at the latest cake creation I've created!  My SIL was co-hosting a baby shower for a college room-mate.  They are having a baby boy and requested an elephant cake...

In other news, I finally got my chiropractic license number from the Kansas Board and have now entered the insurance game... what a headache!  But I'm that much closer to opening shop!!

SNOW DAY #1 - AKA Bailey's Day!

We are currently getting dumped on! Nathan got the call at about 5:30 that he indeed was getting a snow day!
We shoveled the drive for the first time today (I know odd thing to be excited about!). Then we let Miss Bailey out for her first real encounter with snow. At first she was doing the awkward high step walk while looking at us like what are you making me do!? Then she started trying to eat the snow as it was falling.
Finally she started running around like a crazy person.
She came back inside, after tearing around the backyard to warm up by the fire - this is one of her new fav spots!
The husband and I were attempting to play scrabble when Miss Bailey was obv feeling left out as she snuck a few letters for herself! Luckily the husband was successful in retrieving the pieces - no ABC poo here!!

After the best snow day lunch of tomato soup and grilled turkey sandwiches - YUMM-O - we headed back out to test out Miss Bailey's new coat!  (can't believe I forgot about it in the morning!!)

Here are a few pics of us enjoying Snow Day #1:

 I love snow!

Catching Snowballs... or at least trying!

Our first snow day ended with great news... ANOTHER SNOW DAY for TUESDAY!

Mexican Breakfast... For Dinner!

We always enjoy a little B4D (read Breakfast for Dinner), but this time I put a little flair in it to shake things up!

Huevos Rancheros turned out great so I thought I'd share...  I started out following this recipe, but quickly realized I had about 2 of the ingredients listed, so I improvised.

What you need:
4-6 Eggs
Tortillas (I used flour - recipe called for corn)
Black Beans (recipe called for pinto)
Salsa (recipe called for green salsa)
Scallions
Tomatoes
Juice of 1/2 lemon
Cheese
Drain Beans and add 1/2 cup salsa, mix well.  Place tortillas on a baking sheet then spread mixture evenly over 4-6 tortillas and sprinkle with cheese.  Put in 400 degree oven for about 5-10 min (until cheese is melted and beans are warm.)
Chop up tomatoes and scallions and garlic.  Mix together and squeeze lemon juice in.

Make eggs over easy and place on top of the bean mixture.

Top with the tomato mixture and enjoy!

I also made some mexican rice on the side:
1 Cup Brown Rice - cook as directed but add 1/2 to 3/4 cup salsa.

Easy Peasy but SO GOOD!!

Air Heads :)

Have you ever done an ear candle before?  I highly recommend it!

Basically, it looks like a candle stick - but hollow.  You stick it through a paper plate so as to not drip any excess wax on your face (ouch!)  Then stick the narrow end in your ear canal and light the other end on fire.  Have someone else watch around your ear to make sure no smoke is coming out - if there is readjust until it stops.  The heat produced by the fire acts as a suction mechanism to pull out excess wax from your ears.

I decided not to post a picture of our results but if you have the stomach for it here is what the end result looks like!
Afterwards it feels like air is passing straight through your head!
Nathan was bored during my turn, so he tried on my glasses and couldn't get over how blind I am.

Finished Product

After Bailey's many episodes yesterday, we had to go home before her new coat was finished.  Doris did such a GREAT job on it, Bailey, I am SO happy with the finished product!  Bailey on the other hand hasn't quite figured it out yet!

Unfortunately it wasn't cold enough out today to try it out on our walk!  Maybe tomorrow... :)

Terrible Twos...

If dogs went through terrible twos, we had a case of it today!
We were headed to Nathan's parents house to pick up some of his things from their basement, but first we wanted to stop by Town Center for a quick errand.  We knew this meant that she would be missing her morning nap (yes she has scheduled naps :) but figured she would sleep all afternoon to make up for it.  We checked first to make sure the stores we were visiting were open and they all said they would be, BUT they lied... we were there at 10:00 and no-one opened till at least noon, so that was a bust. We figured we would stop on the way back.  So we continued on to Paola but Miss Bailey could NOT sit still!  She insisted on sitting in the engine rather than the back seat...
Once we finally got there, she was SO excited to see her cousins - Sam, Daisy and Stella!  They ran and ran and ran - we thought surely that would wear her out so she would sleep the rest of the afternoon!  But NO, Miss Cranky Pants could NOT sit still - front door, back door, basement and over and over... then she PEED IN THE HOUSE!!!  What on earth - she hasn't had an accident for at least 5 months!

Meanwhile - Doris and I were in the process of making her a fleece coat - with Miss Bailey's help of course!  We didn't have a pattern, but based it off this picture - (yes I could have bought it but I'm cheap!)  Looks easy enough, but it definitely served to be a little trickier than expected!

After we ate lunch, Nathan and Bill took Bailey out to the shed while we continued on her coat.  When they came back in, she was all wired up again, so Daddy and Miss Bailey had a heart to heart... literally.
Her next little trick was the icing on the cake... He let her up, she went straight to the basement... AND POOPED!  Really Bailey, REALLY!  You have been house broken for at least 6 months, probably longer!
That was enough excitement for one day, we loaded up and headed out.  We made it about 8 minutes before pottery barn closed - I hate being that person, but we really needed new towels!  The ride home was MUCH different than the previous drive - she didn't move :)
Once home she was promptly fed and put to bed!
Hopefully tomorrow will be a better day with naps taken and less attitude!!
